There are different types of braces, each is suited to a particular type of problem. The best for you will be advised depending on your teeth and your personal needs.
Removable braces
These are used on their own for simple problems in younger patients (usually under age 11), or as part of a plan involving fixed braces.
Functional braces
Twin-blocks are a type of functional brace which are used to correct prominent teeth in growing children. They are usually removable, and are often followed with fixed braces.
Fixed braces

These are attached to the teeth and cannot be removed by the patient. Usually they are made of metal, but they can be tooth-coloured to be less noticeable.
Invisalign

Clear removable braces which gradually straighten teeth when worn all the time. They are virtually unnoticeable and are good for less severe cases where extractions are not needed.
Lingual braces

Fixed braces which are attached to the back of the teeth rather that the front. This means they are truly invisible. These are good for more severe cases for which Invisalign is not suitable.
