You may see general and cosmetic dentists advertising products like Inman Aligner and Six Month Smiles. These are brand names, the treatment isn't magically different or faster than other types of orthodontics as the speed the teeth move is determined by biological processes.
Inman AlignerInman aligners are removable braces with springs outside and inside which are used to straighten the front teeth only. They are fairly bulky and can be difficult to tolerate, especially for adults. We feel there are better and less visible ways of straightening your front teeth.
Six Month SmilesSix Month Smiles are clear fixed braces stuck to just the front teeth, so the bite and positions of the back teeth won't alter. Whilst we don't use this brand some of our treatments work in a similar way. This type of treatment can be good in certain situations but we'd recommend this is properly assessed by a specialist in orthodontics.
With any type of treatment teeth will be significantly straighter after 6 months but we find to get the best result in even the simplest cases 9-12 months is more realistic. The extra time can make a difference in the fine detail of tooth positioning that can be achieved. Whilst any dentist can carry out orthodontic treatment these types of branded treatment are often provided after short two-day courses. A specialist in orthodontics undergoes a long period of postgraduate training after their dental degree, with at least three years full time training in orthodontics leading to a Masters degree and Membership of a College of Surgeons (you can check the GDC register to see if your orthodontist is registered as a specialist). You can be certain that a specialist will be able to advise you on all aspects of your treatment and that your time and money will be invested in the best way.
